Commonwealth Games

Commonwealth Games – talk of the nations. After the Summer Olympic Games and the Asian Games, The Commonwealth Games stands third as a multi-national and multi-sport event. Held every four years, there are 54 members and 71 teams participating in this event. Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) organizes the events and also selects the host cities.

History states that Commonwealth Games was suggested by Rev. Astly Cooper of England, in 1891, who wrote an article in “Greater Britain” and later in “The Times” initiating the concept of “Pan-Britannic-Pan Anglican Contest and Festival” to be held every four years to increase the good understanding and goodwill of the British. However, the present series of Commonwealth Games started in Canada in 1930.

Logo of Commonwealth Games Federation: In accordance with the CGF Brand Standards Manual, the new seal components are described as: The strong horizontal bar, representing the Games’ effort to raise the bar of sport, forms a key element in the logo. The two broad hemispheric strokes and the three converging points in the centre represent humanity, Equality and Destiny – the trinity of ideals the game embraces.
